Santo Domingo-Last Wednesday, the delegate of Puerto Rico in the Dominican capital, Armando del Valle Munoz, accused Dominican authorities of letting the Haitian government believe that the United State had lifted the embargo against avian products originating from the Dominican Republic.
It is a matter of strategies from Dominican [authorities] to try inducing Haiti into error and obtain from this country, the reactivation of the importation of chickens and eggs, contended Mr. Munoz, who went much further in his assertion than the Haitian authorities, despite the media campaign orchestrated against Haiti, its authorities and its nationals in the Dominican Republic.
Many actually accuse the Haitian authorities of not having done much to explain the technical and scientific foundation of their position to the Dominican public.
Puerto rican authorities denied the lifting of the embargo on avian Dominican products.
"We do not import live hens or chicken meat from the Dominican Republic, because the Dominican authorities still have not provided any proof of the eradication of the virus H5N2 of the Avian Flu", underlined Armando del Valle Munoz.
