St Marc-A disease named « Fabiola » strikes hundreds of pigs in the lower Artibonite and triggers an epidemic of fever among the inhabitants.
The coordinator of the Movement of Peasants and Planters of the Lower Artibonite, Charles Karl Henry, spoke out Wednesday against what he termed the slow pace of the Haitian authorities in intervening to eradicate a disease that is affecting hundreds of pigs in the region.
According to Mr. Charles, not a single veterinary doctor has given any indication as to the conduct to be adopted regarding this epidemic which is affecting one of the most important sources of income for residents of the Lower Artibonite, affirming that area residents have thus been left to their own devices.
The Movement coordinator appealed to the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural resources as well as the Ministry of Public Health and Population to intervene rapidly because, he said, this disease has already caused an epidemic of fever among the population.
