Frantzso AUGUSTIN, a member of the CHRC of Croix Des Bouquet, was severely beaten, Monday, Nov. 26, and thrown in prison by police officer Antoine, a grade IV agent, attached to the sub police station of the commune of Croix des Bouquets. Frantzso got involved by asking the policeman to stop beating and mistreating a woman whom he had just arrested.
Frantzso identified himself with his card as a member of the CHRC and of AUMOHD. The policeman, instead of stopping his mistreatment of the woman, took the card, and tore it, and put his hands on Frantzso's neck after having slapped and punched him several times, and then threw him in prison.
Following this, people from the area who were enraged at the actions of this policeman intervened in getting Frantzso freed by a civilian to whom the policeman had given the keys to the guardroom. Worse still after Frantzso's release the policeman threatened him with death if there is anything done to followup on this case.
These acts, beating and death threat, are included in the law and are punishable by the Haitian penal code, the current Constitution, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the convention against torture and beating.
