The Hydroelectric Plant of Saut-Mathurine in the Town of Camp-Perrin Should Restart its Operation Next April, or May

Les Cayes, March 3, 2008 (AHP)- The regional director of Sud de l'Electricité d'Haïti (south of Electricity of Haiti) Antoine Hyppolite, made it known on Monday that the "Central hydro-électrique" of Saut-Mathurine in the town of Camp-Perrin could restart its operation next April or May.
This plant, with a capacity of 2.4 megawatts and inaugurated in 1983 has been dysfunctional for about a year, when 2 of its turbines that broke down were sent to Canada for repairs.
This is the thermal plant of Bourdet (Cayes) functioning today with two engines of a capacity of 1.6 megawatts that assures with hardly suffice to supply for the need.
Nowadays, all basic operations are up to the part at Central de Saut-Mathurine, adjustments were made and water is extracted and cleaned at Bassin Maro (Maro Basin)
"We now only await the return of the turbines from Canada that are currently in containers about to be shipped," declared the regional director, who said he is expecting them at the end of the month of April.
As soon as they arrive, he said, these turbines will be simply tailored back to their original place and the plant will be back in service.
Antoine Hyppolite made it known that during the rainy season, some regions such as Camp-Perrin that is located on the carrier line, could be supplied 24/7.
After the rainy season, supplying could be slightly downwards.
Reforestation work will be undertaken in this zone and the roads by the plant will be repaired with the assistance of the Ministries of Civil Engineering and Internal Affairs.
The Zone of Saut_Mathurine, who also applauds the collaboration of the subscribers who regularly submit to incurred billing in spite of the often drastic energy cutbacks.
In Port-au-Prince, the 16 groups of which profits the Centrale de Carrefour (Carrefour Plant), within the framework of the tripartite Agreement Vénezuela/Cuba/Haïti, already are on site and the 8 groups respectively promised to the cities of Gonaïves and Cap-Haïtien have already been dispatched.
Thus, authorities promise an improvement in the distribution of electric power in these 3 regions.
